Our family...

We have been married since June 2007. We live in our home in Chapin with our amazing, sweet daughter, Audrey, who was born in March 2011, and our clever dog, Betsy. This blog is a way to keep our out-of-state family and friends updated on our lives!

12 Week Ultrasound

This afternoon Jerry and I ventured to the doctor's office for our 12 week ultrasound. We were very anxious to hear that everything was developing well and also excited to see our baby actually look like a baby!
The entire experience was great! The first moment I saw our baby on the screen moving and wiggling, I chuckled out loud (causing the picture to move and wiggle more!). It was just so neat to see! The ultrasound technician tried to get some good pictures, but she said the baby was really cozying up in there. At one point, I said, "It looks like it's using my uterus as a recliner!" because sure enough, the baby was sprawled out, just relaxing! It cracked us up! The technician said the baby was being very calm. We also were able to hear the heartbeat today! It was only 1 more beat per min. than last time. We heard it at 168 bpm.

I posted pictures below from the ultrasound. Our next ultrasound is at 20 weeks, and we should be able to find out the sex then! We are so excited to share these pictures of our little miracle! (You should be able to click them to make them bigger!)

"In sickness and in health"

I am so incredibly blessed to have a wonderful husband in Jerry. He has definitely been living out his "in sickness and in health" part of the vows. The past few days I have been so very exhausted, nauseous, and just TIRED from long days at school. My body is still adjusting to waking up so early, and I am much more fatigued than ever before. I get home from school, lie down in bed for awhile, force myself to eat a little dinner, and usually lie around until time to get back in bed. Meanwhile, Jerry is doing laundry, cooking dinner, and cleaning up! I keep telling him I feel so badly that he's doing everything as I just sit here. He's been amazing and so supportive. I told him I wished I could do something to thank him, and he responded, "I got to go play golf last Saturday, and I'm going this Saturday. I'm good!" Easy to please I suppose!

Hopefully, I will be feeling better sometime in the next 2 weeks. I sure hope so, because I don't know how effective of a teacher I can be if I continue to be this wiped out every day! Thank you, God for blessing me with such a supportive, caring husband!

Yeah, I caved...

So, we have a blog. However, I'm not going to say we have a "baby blog." I will freely admit that I have poked fun of *some* (not all) people for having a "baby blog" only because it would be like 37 posts each week filled with way more details than most may care to read. Nevertheless, I started a blog. I partly started this because I have family who lives out of state, and I want them to be able to be as much of a part of this experience as they want to. Mostly, I started it because I think it will be something will enjoy doing and looking back at later. And let's face it...it's a lot faster than writing in a journal/diary/etc.

So, we have a blog.

For anyone reading this who may want to read baby/pregnancy news, I will share a little now. Jerry and I are extremely excited that we are expecting a little one in March. Our due date is March 14, which is fun because it is my good friend Carol's birthday. Carol is ALSO expecting her 3rd child a few weeks after my due date! We have joked that I could have my baby on her birthday, and she can have hers on my birthday (Apr. 6)! I am thrilled to have a friend close by to go through the journey of pregnancy right along with! Another close friend, Heather Hicks (formerly Marquis), is ALSO expecting her first baby in late February! It is definitely fun to go through all of this with friends!

Jerry and I found out we were pregnant on July 6, which was the day we left to head up to IL for  my sister's wedding! I had suspected we might be and was confirmed with a positive test that day. I would have loved to wait until Jerry got home to tell him the news in some cute, fun way, but Jerry and I both are terrible at waiting for surprises, so I immediately called him and told him the news! We are thankful to God that we were able to get pregnant very quickly without any complications. I'm currently almost 11 weeks, and the fatigue and nausea are the 2 biggest symptoms I've been dealing with lately. Starting back at school without daily naps has really been tough. I have  not been one (as an adult) to nap much during the day, except for the occasional Sunday afternoon nap. However, from the start of the pregnancy up until school started, I was napping daily, sometimes for 2 hours! So now that I'm back at school teaching my 5th graders all day, a nap is hard to come by! Last night, on a Friday night, I was so wiped out that I got in my bed before 8 PM. This morning, I did not get out of my bed until after 8 AM! I feel much more rested now! I am looking forward to the first trimester to be over so that the nausea and extreme fatigue can ease up!

The positive result was immediately visible! I jumped up and down and immediately called Jerry!

I have been to my doctor (and I just love him; he's great!) twice already. I had an ultrasound when I was about 6 weeks along, and I could see the heart beating away at 167 beats per minute! That was fascinating! I am very anxious for my next ultrasound on Aug. 30 because then I should see something that looks a lot more like a baby! We are also looking forward to finding out if we are having a boy or a girl. We obviously do not care either way, as long as our child is healthy! My sister has told me she thinks it's a boy. My intuition has said girl, but you never know!

That's all for our first post. I'll post news and updates as life continues!
