Our family...

My photo
We have been married since June 2007. We live in our home in Chapin with our amazing, sweet daughter, Audrey, who was born in March 2011, and our clever dog, Betsy. This blog is a way to keep our out-of-state family and friends updated on our lives!

Pumping Iron

Last Monday (Nov. 22), I went to the doctor for my 1 hour glucose test. This test is to check my blood sugar and check for gestational diabetes. Having quite the sweet tooth, I was slightly concerned but not overly worried. The appointment itself went just fine. I got there, checked in, and had to go ahead and drink 10 oz. of this incredibly sweet orange liquid. Imagine orange soda without the carbonation but with about a million times the sweetness. It was ICK to say the least, but I got it down fine. While we waited for the hour to pass, I had my checkup. This time, I saw the nurse practitioner because my doctor was scheduled out of the office. We got to hear our little one's heartbeat (156 beats per minute), and I also learned that the weight gain has indeed begun. I had lost weight between each of my previous appoitnments, but this time I had definitely gained! After I stepped on the scale, the nurse looked at my chart, looked at me, and said, "Is this the scale you usually weigh on?" HA! She was a bit surprised at the sudden increase, but I think it will be more steady from this point (I initially wasn't gaining because I wasn't eating due to no appetite!). As we left the doctor's office with a copy of my records in hand (prepared for our long distance Thanksgiving trip), we were told we wouldn't get a call about the blood test unless we needed to know something about the glucose levels.

Fast forward to Wednesday: We arrive to Illinois and are preparing for a family-filled holiday break. While Jerry and I are lying down for a nap, my phone rings. I let out a groan as the caller ID tells me it's the doctor's office. As I'm answering, I say to Jerry, "Please don't be gestational diabetes!" Well, it wasn't! Instead, I am anemic. I'm apparently not getting enough iron (which isn't hard to believe because I'm honestly not the biggest fan of green veggies). The nurse said to me, "We're going to get you some iron supplements and hopefully that will give you some more energy." So THAT explains why I am still feeling absolutely exhausted everyday (more so than usual for a teacher-haha!). Now, I get to take a little black iron pill everyday. Hopefully this will be an easily solved problem, and I'm even more hopeful that I will get more energy!

In other news, our Thanksgiving holiday break was wonderful. We were able to relax, spend time with family, shop, eat PLENTY (of course!) and even see snow Thanksgiving day! It was great to see my family in Illinois since I do not get to see them often. Friday night, we ventured to the local karaoke bar (a favorite hangout of my sister's). I stayed hidden in my chair (thought it wouldn't look too appropriate for a pregnant lady up singing at a bar!), but my dad, uncle, sister, brother-in-law, and Jerry all sang proudly! I've shared a couple pictures below to commemorate the night.

One of Jerry's favorite karaoke numbers is "Bohemian Rhapsody," and sevearal guys joined in!

Jill singing "Summer Nights" with Anni, her husband's brother's girlfriend.
We're glad to be home and trying to get back into the swing of work. I'm 25 weeks along now (can't believe how quickly it's flying by), and only 14 more school days until Christmas break!
