Since I had a c-section, we had to stay in the hospital 3 days, so we were there from EARLY Tuesday morning (3/15) until Friday mid-morning (3/18). Luckily, the discharge process didn't take forever, so we were home by around lunchtime. We were so excited to dress Audrey in her coming home outfit and show her our family's home!
Ready to head home from the hospital! |
We were greeted by my parents who were staying with us, as well as our dog, Betsy. We were anxious for Betsy to meet Audrey, as she had been sensing that some sort of change was coming in the previous weeks. Before Audrey was born, I would find Betsy sleeping on the floor in Audrey's room, which was a room she never sat in otherwise. My parents took home a blanket that Audrey had been wrapped in the night she was born in order to give Betsy a preview of the new scent. Betsy met Audrey out in our driveway and after a good sniff, she seemed to be okay with her new "little sister." (Even now, Betsy continues to be curious of the scents and also is very protective, coming close every time Audrey begins to cry.)
Resting in my Pack 'n Play on my first day home! |
Our first evening/night home was eventful and non-eventful at the same time. I did my best to lie down and rest as often as possible in between feedings (which I was still getting used to). Late that night, my sister and her husband arrived into town. Not surprisingly, Aunt Jill was very anxious to meet her new niece, so she and Myles left Tennessee as soon as they got off work that afternoon and headed south. After they arrived, met Audrey, and got settled in, it was time for us to try to get our first night's sleep at home. That night was a difficult one! Audrey stayed in our room with Jerry and me and slept in her Pack 'n Play (when she slept!). She would eat, fall asleep, and then wake up within minutes it seemed! Then, she started to cry and cry, which made us kept asking, "What does she need?" We knew we were doing everything we were supposed to, so we just continued, hoping for eventual sleep. She did finally fall asleep for a bit, and then it was morning, so my mom helped out by taking her for a couple hours so that Jerry and I could get a bit of shut-eye.
I am so incredibly THRILLED to say that this was the only night we have had like this since Audrey has been home. Ever since that first night, Audrey has steadily slept for a good 6 or so hours through the night! I know that I am so fortunate in this, and I pray it continues!
The next few days consisted of us relaxing and getting used to having a baby in the house. My parents, sister, Myles, and grandparents were all visiting, so that kept our house very occupied, but we were so thankful they could all be here to celebrate our new arrival with us. They also were extremely helpful while they were here -- doing housework, laundry, cooking meals, and more! Jerry and I were able to get much more rest than many new parents because of their help!
We have several more pictures, but Facebook has been the easiest way to share those. If you do not have Facebook and would like to see the pictures, click THIS, and you will be able to see the pictures we have shared!
